Traffic Restrictions Issued on Jorabat – Khanapara Stretch

Guwahati: Guwahati Police, Traffic has restricted the movement of some vehicles on the Jorabat – Khanapara stretch of Guwahati. The police administration has taken action in view of the road repair works on this section of the GS Road. They have issued the following advisory regarding the matter.

“In view of the traffic congestion along the Khanapara to Jorabat section of NH-27, due to the ongoing PQC panel placement work undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and considering the need to complete this work before the onset of the rainy season, this advisory is issued in the interest of travellers coming to Guwahati from Upper Assam and Meghalaya via Jorabat. Appropriate traffic management measures will be implemented accordingly,” mentioned the release.

As per the order,

  • All goods-carrying vehicles moving towards Guwahati from the Upper Assam side will take a diversion at Kaliabor Tiniali. They shall take an alternate route to reach the city. The same is via Kaliabor Tiniali – Sonitpur – Darrang – Baihata Chariali.
  • All goods-carrying vehicles coming from Nagaon/ Morigaon towards Guwahati will enter onto NH-27 within Guwahati city limits only between 10 PM and 6 AM. The same is valid for such vehicles from Meghalaya.
  • All LMVs coming from the Upper Assam side may use the following alternative routes to save valuable time:

(a) Digaru Point on NH-27-Digaru Tiniali – Amsing Jorabat – Army Camp- Patharquarry.
(b) Digaru Point on NH-27 – Digaru Tiniali – Chandrapur – Panikhaiti -Narengi.
(c) Chamota-Mayong – Chandrapur-Panikhaiti – Narengi.
(d) Jagiroad-Mayong – Chandrapur – Panikhaiti – Narengi.

These restrictions will definitely ease the traffic congestions on this route till the repairs are complete. The Jorabat – Khanapara section of road which usually takes about half an hour, is taking more than two hours because of the ongoing work. Also the presence of multiple educational institutions and medical facilities on this route is a major cause of concern. As a large section of daily commuters are school and college students.
