The Kamrup (M) District Authorities issued revised guidelines for lockdown relaxations in Guwahati city on Sunday. This comes a few hours after the state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the city has recorded 777 cases of Covid-19 within 24 hours. Earlier on Saturday. The earlier notification for the guidelines for lockdown relaxations was issued on Saturday. However, these relaxations were revised in view of the sudden spike in Covid cases.
The announcement of the revised guidelines has been made by the Chief Secretary of the state Kumar Sanjay Krishna in a tweet.
- All stand alone grocery shops are allowed to operate between 11am and 4pm from Monday to Friday (6th July to 10 July). Shopkeepers and customers will have to wear masks, hand gloves and maintain social distancing. Responsibility of maintenance of social distancing will be on the shop owner and failure to do so will be viewed very seriously and may entail summery closure of defaulting shops. Maintenance of price line and prevention of artificial shortage will be the responsibility of the shopkeepers and food, the civil supplies and consumer affairs dept.
- Whole sellers of grocery items have been allowed to restock their supplies on Sunday (5th July) and Tuesday (7th July) between 12 noon and 6pm.
- House to house sale of fruits and vegetables etc shall be allowed between 8 AM and 2 PM on Monday and Wednesday (6th and 8th July 2020).
- No roadside vending of any fruit, vegetable fish etc will be allowed. All other restriction as imposed on earlier guidelines issued on 4th July.
- Previous restrictions issued will also be valid during this time period.
Assam recorded the biggest spike in a single day by registering a total of 1202 cases on July 4. Out of these cases, 777 have been recorded in Guwahati city alone. This also marks the highest surge in the city within 24 hours so far.
In the earlier notification grocery shops, vegetable shops and few other necessary operations were allowed to function on specific days within the allotted time period.
