The first flying school of Northeast India was inaugurated in the Lilabari airport of North Lakhimpur in Assam. This institution will be managed by the Redbird Flying Training Academy with the Airports Authority of India. It has all the necessary facilities including hangers and runways. It was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minster for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju and Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam.
Lack of any facility to train the students of the region in flying is one of the many problems of the region. Interested boys and girls have to travel to far off places including Delhi, Mumbai or Bhubaneshwar. Thus making this already costly course even more expensive. An institution in the region will definitely help in the skill development and empowerment of youth of Northeast India.
This flying school is the first of nine similar institutions set to opened in different parts of the country. A 200 hour flying course for commercial pilots is the main training offered. The students will be trained and certified in flying Airbus or Boeing 737 planes. This institution is equipped to create 100 trained pilots from the region every year.
