Government of Manipur on Tuesday ordered closure of all the main markets located within Thoubal district. The decision was taken in view of the increase in number of Covid-19 cases in the district.
The markets including Lilong Bazar, Ushoipokpi Bazar, Waithou Bazar Babu Bazar, Mina Bazar, Thoubal Bazar, Wangjing Bazar, Yairipok Bazar, Nungphou Bazar, will remain closed with immediate effect until further orders.
Along with the markets, all religious places shall be closed for public and religious congregations will remain prohibited. Earlier on Tuesday, banks and post offices under Thoubal district have also been ordered by the authorities to remain closed for public till 26th July.
Manipur has a very low rate of infection compared to Assam and Tripura in Northeast India and state government is taking all possible steps to keep it that way. Assam has the highest number of Covid – 19 positive cases in the region. The current number of active cases as of Tuesday remain on 7936 in the state of Assam, with the highest number of cases in its capital city of Guwahati.
Currently, Manipur stands at 605 active cases of Covid-19 with a recovery rate of 68.57 per cent.
