Manipur issues Complete Lockdown for ten days

In view of the increasing number of Covid infections and the the highly infectious nature of the delta variant across the country and Northeast India, the Government of Manipur has decided to implement a complete lockdown in the state for ten days. This order was issued by the Principal Secretary of Heath of the state of Manipur, V. Vumlunmang.

The curfew in the state will start from the 18th of July, Sunday and will continue for ten days. That is till the 27th of July, Tuesday.

Only essential services including the Covid related works like testing and vaccination, medical services and supplies, water supply and electricity connections and services will be allowed to operate. Other services which remain to stay active are telecom and internet services, air travel and agriculture related services.

The number of cases in the Northeastern states are being closely monitored by the respective state governments. Although most of the states still maintain a complete screening procedure, Manipur is the only one to issue a compete lockdown. Meanwhile neighboring Assam has cancelled its previous order of allowing people with both the doses of Covid-19 vaccine into the state without testing, and making Covid-19 tests compulsory at airports and railway stations of the state. On the contrary, Nagaland has allowed reopening of educational institutions in the state towards the end of this month.
