Manipur Govt on Monday requested the centre to stop all passenger flights to Imphal for 10 days to clear the pending backlog of COVID-19 testing.
The state wants the Aviation Ministry to halt the flights for a period of 10 days starting from June 18 to June 28.
Due to the heavy inflow of people from outside the state, there has been a substantial delay in testing all of them. In a letter to the Ministry of Aviation, Chief Secretary of Manipur J. Suresh Babu informed that there’s a huge backlog of 15000 pending results.
“As on date, there are five flights landing in Imphal. The state government has decided to stop all passenger flights for a period of 10 days to clear the pending backlog of testing and also clear the congestion in quarantine centres. As discussed, I request you to stop all passenger flights to Imphal from 19-06-2020 to 28-06-2020. Kindly issue necessary instructions to all airlines, DGCA and the AAI,” Chief secretary added in the letter to Usha Padhee, Joint secretary in the Civil Aviation Ministry.
The state has so far recorded 458 cases of COVID-19. Out of these, 367 are active.
