Meghalaya invests over Rs 1000 Cr on farming communities

The state of Meghalaya has disbursed over Rs 1000 Cr for various farming communities over the last four years. Cheques amounting to Rs. 22.95 lakhs were handed over to 40 producer groups in an event held today.

Conrad K Sangma, the Meghalaya chief minister made this announcement about giving Rs. 1000 Cr in an event today. This amount has been given to farming communities through various welfare schemes including FOCUS. FOCUS being the biggest welfare project of the state has benefited about 4.5 lakh farmers of the state. To increase the benefits of the scheme, the government has declared an addition Rs. 5000 per family. This amount will b credited directly to the accounts of the farming households across the state under FOCUS +.

Around 18000 producer groups have been already formed across the state to get benefits of the FOCUS program since its launch in March 2021. And the success and happiness of the farmers encouraged the state to announce the FOCUS + program. The amount of Rs. 5000 will serve as seed money for farming and allied activities for livelihood generation.

The state also hosts events like the Northeast Food Show to promote local produce of the state. This annual event is the best opportunity for all the agriculture and food based industries in the state and beyond. And thus providing valuable market linkage to all the entrepreneurs of the states.
