Meghalaya government on Monday launched the new website of Meghalaya Tourism ‘Check into Nature’. The launch was done by the state’s Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in the presence of Commissioner and secretary, Tourism, Vijay Kumar, and Director Tourism, Cyril Diengdoh. The online launch event also saw participation of stakeholders from tourism and hospitality sector.
“The website is a one-stop service platform for tourists that also incorporates the services of stakeholders like tour operators, hotels, etc. apart from key information on tourism locations in Meghalaya”, said Sangma.
A pamphlet ‘Restart Tourism’ was also launched during the event. Restart tourism initiative to promote safe and sustainable in the state.
Addressing the audience via video conferencing, Sangma expressed that the pandemic caused certain hindrances for tourism with all the restrictions and lockdowns. He further added that in order to attract more tourists, adaptive measures need to be taken to promote Meghalaya as a safe state for tourists in the post-covid time. The Chief Minister also said that there might be a decline in people travelling to outside locations which may result in inflow of domestic tourists in Meghalaya.
As stated by Sangma, the state government has been working on the development of tourism and related infrastructure which will facilitate unique experiences to the tourists coming to the state. The government is also planning to improve the air connectivity to major cities across the country as it is a significant part of travel and tourism. Direct flights from Delhi to Shillong will be available soon as stated by Sangma.
