Meghalaya government on Thursday decided to close all entry points to the state for one week, every month. The rule will apply from September 2020 onward and continue for next three months.
The decision has been taken to reduce load from the health and front-line workers of the state along with the respective District Administration engaged in intensive surveillance for Covid-19 as stated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Along with this decision, Meghalaya Government has also reduced the quarantine period for returnees from 14 days to 10 days. This revised guideline was announced on Thursday in a review meeting by Deputy Chief Minister of the state Prestone Tynsong.
As per the new guideline, if a person tests positive for Covid-19 at the entry point of the state will be immediately taken to Covid Care Center and kept in isolation for 10 days. In case the person tests negative, he will be allowed to go home but has to remain in isolation for 10 days.
The previous order from the state government was a complete closure of all entry points of the state from the 24th to the 31st of July. Also Meghalaya currently stands at 925 active cases of Covid-19.
