Meghalaya to Close State Entry Points from 24th to 31st July

Meghalaya Government on Wednesday decided to close all entry points of the State from 24th-31st July, 2020. The entry points include Byrnihat, Ratacherra, Bajengdoba, Tikrikilla, Mirjumla & Hallidayganj.

The decision was taken to allay the burdens of health, front-line workers & District Administration who have been engaged in intensive surveillance since past 4 months.

State Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that only emergency, medical services, essential commodities & transit movement of Assam vehicles will be allowed during this period.

Sangma further added that this closure period will be used to shift the entry point of Byrnihat to a new location for smooth movement of people & vehicles. The entry points to reopen from 1st Aug, 2020.

Previously the Chief Minister had announced the closure of the border points with Guwahati city on the 29th of June. This step was taken to prevent the further spread of the Covid -19 pandemic in the state after the sudden rise in positive cases in Guwahati city.

Meghalaya, so far has 289 active cases of Covid-19. The number of active cases in Assam stands at 6444 which is also the highest in Northeast India.
