The Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court has put on hold the Nagaland government’s decision to ban the commercial import and sale of dog meat in markets and restaurants.
With this decision, the commercial import, trade and sale of dogs and dog meat can be done in Nagaland for the time being. The decision was taken on November 25th followed by hearing a petition by licensed dog meat traders.
As per a report, the court was of the view that the ban order “may be stayed until the next returnable date”.
The decision to ban “commercial import and trading of dogs, dog markets and also the sale of dog meat, both cooked and uncooked was announced by Nagaland Chief Secretary Temjem Toy on the 3rd of July.
