In an effort to make Kohima a litter-free city, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has started observing ‘No Litter, No Garbage’ hours starting from 6 AM in the morning to 6 PM in the evening. The initiative was launched at the beginning of the June month.
Kohima Municipal Council urged the citizens of the city to not throw waste from moving cars and stop the habit of littering. It further warned that the violators will be fined.
The TCP junction to North PS junction has been selected as the pilot location to carry out the mission for the initial week. The range will be gradually extended to the main highway, informed the administrator of Kohima Municipal Council Kovi Meyase.
He further encouraged the citizens to make adequate use of dustbins on the pavements, footpaths, and the ones placed in front of multiple shops. Meyase also instructed shops and other business establishments to deposit the waste they generate at waste collection points specified by the Kohima Municipal Council before 6 am and after 6 pm.
Praising the efforts of the citizens, Meyase informed that the capital city of Nagaland has become much cleaner over the years. He also lauded the ward sanitization committees and other groups and organizations for their contribution to making the city cleaner. These sanitization committees have also been asked to create awareness about the cleanliness initiative and monitor the garbage deposit timings.
