During his address to Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Annual Plenary Session on Thursday via VC, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Northeast India has the potential to emerge as a hub of Organic Farming.
He highlighted how Sikkim has come out as a successful model of organic farming produce. He suggested that all the other states of Northeast should follow the footsteps of Sikkim.
“Just like Sikkim, the entire North-East can become a huge hub for organic farming. It can become the organic capital. It can bring about a revolution if the Indian Chamber of Commerce wants. You can create its global identity. If you want, you capture the global market with such products,” said PM Modi according to a report.
Modi also asked ICC member to help the Northeastern states in moulding the themselves as a regional organic hub.
PM has also thrown light on governments effort to raise MSPs periodically to empower the farmers’ remuneration. Focusing on the need of participation from industries to make the idea of clusters for regional agricultural produce, PM gave example of Jute industry of Bengal.

Modi also reiterated the government’s commitment to fight Covid-19, locust and challenge because of the recent cyclones. The Indian Meteorological Department (lMD) has recently developed projections for a normal to good southwest monsoon in India, which could lead to good harvesting of Kharif crops.
