Tripura’s Eco-Friendly Bamboo Water Bottles in Demand

India is gradually moving towards self-sufficiency with many states going Vocal for Local. On similar lines, Tripura has been exploring with bamboo products and started focusing on production of bamboo water bottles.

These Bamboo water-bottles from the state have been gaining widespread popularity across the country lately. The bottles have been made by the bamboo artisans of the state and being developed by Tripura Rehabilitation and Plantation Corporation (TRPC) in collaboration with Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) and Forest Research Centre for Livelihood Extension (FRCLE) and are being promoted under the PMVDVK and NBM schemes.

According to TOI, these eco-friendly bottles were developed about 2 years ago but was officially launched about six months back by the state Chief Minister.

These bottles came into the limelight after Bollywood actress Raveena Tondon placed an order and tweeted about it. On receiving the order as well, the Daman actress took to twitter to share her happiness.

Expressing gratitude to Tondon, Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb said, “…glad that you have liked the bamboo bottles of Tripura & thanks for showing interest towards eco-friendly bamboo products. It will motivate the bamboo artisans.”

Deb also invited the actress to visit Tripura post the pandemic to explore the unexplored beauty of the state.

As informed by the BCDI head Dr Abhinav Kant in a report, these bottles are leak-proof and there’s a barrier of glass, steel and copper preventing the water coming in contact with the bamboo. Hence, there’s no growth of fungus and bad odor.

Usage of Bamboo bottles have many benefits. It generates good income to the local bamboo artisans of the state boosting the regional economy. Being an eco-friendly option, use of these bottle will also reduce plastic usage to a great extent.
