Guwahati: The Seemanta Kreeda Mahotsav ‘24, a vibrant celebration of sports and culture, concluded yesterday after a successful 3-day-long run in Guwahati. The festive event, held at Indira Gandi Athletic Stadium and Sports Complex, attracted participants and spectators from across the city and the entire region.
This year’s Mahotsav featured a diverse range of sporting competitions. These included 100 meters, 200 meters, 800 meters, 1500 meter races and 100 x 4 relay races. Long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, kabaddi, kho kho and football competitions were also organised.
The event started on March 30 and came to an end on April 1. Several dignitaries took part in the closing ceremony of the event. These also included Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Padma Shri and Arjuna Award-winning sportsperson PT Usha. Both congratulated the winners on their performance. In her speech, PT Usha stressed the importance of sports activities in terms of well-being. She also called on all the participants to keep on practising harder to achieve bigger goals. The Governor mentioned the availability of sports talent in the state. He commended the organisers for giving an opportunity to these youth to showcase their talents. He also called on the youth of the state to align themselves more towards different sports to leave their mark.
The closing ceremony of the Seemanta Kreeda Mahotsav ‘24 was also a grand affair. It featured prize distributions for sporting competitions after their dazzling performances in the competitions. The event’s success is also a testament to the growing popularity of sports and cultural activities in Guwahati and the wider Assam region.
The Udalguri contingent was given the overall champion trophy of the event. Udalguri bagged a total of 22 medals. This tally included 10 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. A total of 765 youths, including 346 girls and 419 boys from different parts of the state took part in the Seemanta Kreeda Mahotsav ‘24.
