The tourism sector of the country is ready for new addition. A 4000 km long long cruise will connect Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Dibrugarh in Assam.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways for the Government of India and the ex chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal announced about this project. Named Ganga Vilas cruise, this landmark project will be flagged off from the city of Varanasi on the 10th of January next year. The cruise ship will reach its destination by the 1st of March next year. The 4000 km long trip will last 50 days and traverse through the Ganges, the Brahmaputra and Bay of Bengal.
The ship will touch fifty places of tourism interest in this trip including several world heritage sites. Important temple cities will also be stops for this ship. Kolkata, Guwahati and Dhaka are also on the itinerary of this cruise.
Ganga Vilas Cruise is a Public Private partnership project. Inland Waterways Authority of India, Antara Luxury River Cruises and JM Baxi River Cruises will undertake this project. An experiment for this project has been completed recently when a cargo ship that sailed from Patna made port in Guwahati earlier this year.
The ship will pass through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route. The union minister did now reveal ticket details yet.
