Airport Authority of India is all set to establish the new Greenfield Airport at Hollongi in Arunachal Pradesh. The first phase of the construction work has already begun and the Airport is expected to be completed by 2022.
Accomodation for narrow-body jets like Airbus A321 will be carried out in the first phase of the Greenfield Airport. The construction work for the 4-lane approach road for te airport, water and electricity connection, erection of boundary walls etc. has already begun.
The total area of the airport is spread over 320 hectares with the terminal area of 4100 square metres. The airport will equipped with 5 check-in counters and two parking bays. The peak hour handling capacity of the airport is estimated to be of 200 passengers. The cost of the entire project is 955 crores.
The construction of the runaway is expected to start by October 2020.
The foundation stone for the Airport was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019. The idea for the Airport was proposed considering the importance of air-connectivity to Itanagar.
Also a company named Flybig Airlines is all set to provide services to the remote airstrips of Northeast India.
