Assam Cabinet introduces Assam Tourism Policy 2022

The Assam state cabinet has introduced the Assam Tourism Policy 2022 in the July edition of the monthly cabinet meetings.

Assam Tourism Policy of 2022 aims to develop the tourism infrastructure of the state of Assam. These aim to preserve the nature and culture of the state while attracting more tourists.

Key points

  • Compulsory participation of local public in tourist projects across the state. This participation can be both directly as in working of the project or indirectly as subsidiary services.
  • Encourage the Amar Alohi scheme to set up more home stays in the state.
  • Creation of Special Tourism Areas so as to promote specific forms of tourism activity. Some of them are Tea Tourism, Golf Tourism, Medical and and Health Tourism and Adventure Tourism.
  • Encourage investments from Indian as well of Foreign organisations to invest in this sector in a Public Private Partnership model.

Encouraging the Tea Tourism

The state will take the following steps towards development of the infrastructure in this field.

  • Selection of fifty tea gardens with heritage bungalows located near existing tourist attractions and their development in the Public Private Partnership model.
  • State will invest 50% of the cost, upto Rs. 2 Crores in such development project.
  • State government will earmark Rs. 50 Crores the development of Tea Tourism in the 2022-23 budget.
  • Expenditure of total Rs. 100 Crores for the development of 50 tea estates.

Tourism project at Manas National Park

A state of the art Tourism project will be set up in Basbari Lodge owned by the ATDC. This project will be developed in the Public Private Partnership model.
