In a virtual conference, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the Civil Aviation Minister of India, Jyotiraditya Scindia to increase flights to the state as well as for the expansion of services at the existing airports of Assam. The virtual meeting was also attended by the Minister of Transport of Assam, Chandra Mohan Patowary.
The Chief Minster of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the the Union Civil Aviation Minister to extend the services in the existing airports of the state. He also requested the central minister to start international flights from the airports of the state as well as the increase frequency of the domestic flights. This will help a great deal in bringing in foreign tourists to the state of Assam as well as boasting the aviation sector of the state. He also thanked the central minister for developing the new airports in the region.
Assam currently has five airports across the state. They are in Guwahati, Silchar, Lakhimpur, Jorhat and Dibrugarh. Apart from improving the infrastructure in these existing airports, the chief minister also pitched with the central minster for a creation of a new heliport at Haflong in Dima Hasao as well as a greenfield airport in Karbi Anglong of Assam.
