Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has passed the Assam Tourism (Development and Registration) Bill, 2024 aimed at the promotion of the tourism sector. This new bill makes way for several key developments including the creation of industry standards. It will also make way for the enforcement of safety standards in the industry.
The state government wants to promote the tourism sector with a multipronged approach. To that end, the Assam Tourism (Development and Registration) Bill, 2024 has been implemented. One of the key points of the setting up of an expert committee. It has been named the Adventure Safety Audit Committee. This committee will look into the safety audit of the adventure activities and sites across the state.
This announcement was made after a cabinet meeting that took place on Wednesday. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had chaired this meeting. It was mentioned that the Assam Tourism (Development and Registration) Bill, 2024 will revitalise and promote the industry.
The bill also enforces the registration of all tourism-related activities and businesses with the administration. It also makes way for levying penalties on persons or organisations not following these standards.
“The proposed bill will bring benefits such as ensuring economic growth via development of tourism, growth of tourism infrastructure and provide for responsible and sustainable development of tourism, safeguarding Assam’s cultural and natural heritage,” mentioned a statement from the chief minister.
The CM also formally laid the foundations for the redevelopment of the Rang Ghar complex. The Rang Ghar complex stands as one of the examples of Ahom infrastructure in the state. The redevelopment process aims at the preservation of the heritage architecture. While the surrounding area will be developed and necessary public infrastructure will be created. These include parking areas, parks, restrooms and other facilities in the vicinity of the Rang Ghar. Once completed, this project is expected to attract a large number of tourists to Sivasagar.
