Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam opened its gates for tourists on Tuesday. The re-opening ceremony was attended by Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya along with ATDC Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah and state minister Pijush Hazarika.
Speaking on the occasion, the Forest Minister said, “This sanctuary being close to the hub of NE India, Guwahati is a huge booster of tourism & our Department is putting in all efforts for the overall development of the sanctuary”.
The sanctuary is a popular tourist spot which was closed since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic and monsoon season.
Reportedly, the sanctuary incurred huge losses due to the pandemic with a generation of just Rs30 lakh which is one-third of the previous year’s earnings.
