World Tourism Day is celebrated across the world on the 27th of September. The tourism fraternity of Assam also celebrated the same, and the venue of the main celebration was the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra this year.
This year’s event in Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra saw the the presence of many eminent dignitaries including the Chief Minister of the state, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Tourism, Bimal Borah and Bodoland Territorial Council CEM Pramod Boro. Director of Assam Tourism, and representatives of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council and Dima Hasao Autonomous District Council were also present.
For the first time, representatives of the Indian Association of Tour Operators and Adventure Tour Operators Association of India were present in the tourism day function. Also representatives of the Tour Operators Association of Assam, Hotels and Restaurants Association of Assam and several other organizations were also present in the event.
Aparup Assam, a compilation of unexplored tourist destinations of the state with future prospects was also released during the event. The Chief Minister also announced relief packages for the tour operators and tourist guides of the state. Speaking on the event, the Chief Minister said that new avenues of tourism in the state should be explored and we should be looking beyond Kaziranga.
The celebration at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra also included exhibitions from various stakeholders. Representatives from Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission had an exhibition and sale of various products from their creators. Members of the three autonomous councils also exhibited their traditional handlooms and handicrafts while simultaneously explaining about various tourism destinations and products to the visitors.
Several contests were carried out across the state to commemorate the World Tourism Day 2021 across the state. The prizes and certificates for the same were also handed over in this event. Live performances of various dance forms of the state were also showcased in the open arena of the event.
