The 27th of September is celebrated the World Tourism Day. Like the previous celebrations, Assam Tourism organised the main event on the banks of the Chandubi Lake.
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation selected the theme of Tourism and Rural Development of this year. And keeping this year’s theme and safety precautions of Covid -19 in mind, the Assam Tourism Department selected the venue of Chandubi Lake.
Not far from the city, this natural crater lake is favorite destination for all kinds of tourists. It has ample scope for trekking, boat rides, picnics, traditional culture and even ethnic food.
The event started with a cycle rally flagged off from Dighali Pukhuri in the morning. The destination of the rally was Chandubi Lake.
The event also saw the inauguration of a children’s recreational park at the Chandubi Tourist Lodge followed by a cultural performance of the Rabha people of Assam. A permanent auditorium was also inaugurated on the banks of the Chandubi Lake. Also the latest edition of the Departmental Magazine of Tourism Department of Pragjyotish College was revealed in the event.
Minister of Tourism Chandan Brahma spoke about the future of rural tourism and its scope during the post Covid- 19 scenario. He also announced the establishment of the Rajapara near Chandubi Lake as a Clean Village on the lines of the Umswai Village of Karbi Anglong.
Safety equipment like life jackets and thermometers were also distributed to the members of the Chandubi Boating Association. A boat ride of the lake was also on the part of the Tourism Day celebration.
During the event, ATDC Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah stressed on the promotion of local tourism. He said that Assam itself has incredible locations that are worth exploring. Instead of going out of the state or country, he urged people to travel across Assam and see the wonders it has.
Awards of various competitions held to highlight Awesome Assam was also handed over as a part of this event. Top performers of the ongoing home-stay scheme were also awarded in the event.
