The Assam Tourism Development Corporation has tied up with Flybig Airlines to run special flights at a fixed cost between the Guwahati Airport and Silchar Airport.
The recent rains had caused severe damages to the railway and highway networks of the state. Many sections of railway tracks as well as highways have been swept away by landslides and mudslides. The Haflong station has been one of the worst effected by landslides. This has completely stopped all forms of communications between the Barak valley and the rest of the country. The Northeast Indian states of Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura have also been effected by this weather disturbance.
The airways link between Guwahati airport and the Silchar airport remained the only means of communication left for travelers, even for emergency needs. But due to the sudden increase in the demand for seats, the prices of air tickets have also risen manifold. So much so that the less than one hour flight costs more than Rs. 30,000 per seat. Assam Government stepped in after multiple reports of this increase by several citizens, media agencies and even politicians.
The Assam Tourism Development Corporation has now tied up with Flybig, the regional airline. The aim is to provide special flights between the two airports. The price of these tickets are fixed at Rs. 3000 per seat. This service will remain active till any further notice. One can book these tickets by calling the number +91-8145902973.
