Indian Railways have given a new facility to the travelers in trains. Baby berths are now being introduced in trains for comfortable travel of parents with their infants.
Indian Railways is by far the biggest transporter of the country. It is responsible for carrying the bulk of travelers across the length an breath of the country. The largest public transportation systems carry nearly 20 million people every day. And this includes a large number of families and young infants.
It is quite uncomfortable for mothers with young infants to travel in trains as the seat is quite narrow. In order to solve this problem, the Indian railways have now introduced something called baby berths. These are smaller extensions to the seat for the infant to sleep on. They also have ample side protection so that the infant does not fall over or hit the walls of the train during the vibrations. Thus not only do they provide more space, but also added protection for small children.
These baby berths can be folded when they are not necessary. In this case, no extra space is occupied when not extended and locked. These seats have been introduced in experimental system. As of now, they have been introduced in the seat number 12 and 60 if the B4 coach of the Lucknow Mail which is numbered 12229 and 12230.
