Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today flagged off two ferries with modern amenities to server the citizens of the state. The foundation stone for a new Inland Water Transport Terminal was also laid in the same event. The event was held next the IWT ghat in Fancy Bazar of Guwahati.
These two new catamaran ships have the capacity of carrying a hundred passengers and fifty motorcycles. The new project has been named the Guwahati Gateway Ferry Terminal Project. The upcoming Inland Water Transport Terminal will have special facilities equipped to make the boarding/ deboarding and travelling easier for the specially-abled public, senior citizens, womenfolk and the children.
The IWT department already has fleet of four similar ferries operating in different locations of the state. And these are expected to relive the pressure form the existing ships in service. Also the people can book their ferry tickets online for the e-portal created by the Inland Water Transport Department of Assam.
The chief minister also announced that new speed limits will soon be placed on the roads of Assam. Also driving training will be given to fifty people from each constituency in the coming days. Announcement regarding several services made available online was also made in the event.
