A bicycle rally to mark the beginning of the celebrations of World Tourism Day 2021 in Assam was flagged off from Dighalipukhuri early today morning. This convoy of cyclists traveled from the heart of the city of Guwahati to the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, covering a distance of almost thirty kilometres.
The rally was organised by the Directorate of Tourism, lead by Madhumita Bhagawati, the Director of Tourism and was flagged off at 6 AM today by the Tourism Minister of Assam, Bimal Borah. The flag off event also saw the presence of Navadeep Kalita, Vice Chairman ATDC, Razvee Hussain, Commissioner & Secretary of Tourism, Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, IAS Commissioner & Secy Environmental & Forest and Dr. Amit Sahai, Additional PCCF Wildlife.
Every year the Department of Tourism organizes a bicycle rally to mark the World Tourism Day. It aims to promote not only the venues of tourist importance but also a healthy lifestyle. Last year’s ride was flagged off from the same location but the destination was the Chandubi Lake.
This year’s main event of World Tourism Day will be hosted in the premises of the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalashetrain Guwahati. This year’s celebration is carried out with the aim of establishing Assam as an ideal Tourism Destination Post Covid. Prizes for the winners of various completions and certificates towards successful completion of different courses will be handed out in the event.
