The Delhi Metro services resumed its operations from Monday after being closed for a total of 169 days due to the Covid-19 pandemic induced lockdowns.
As per reports, the metro service will be operating in a phased manner. The first line that has been opened is the Yellow line which connects Samaypur Badli and Huda City Centre in Gurugram.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the reopening in a tweet today morning.
DMRC will restart rest of the lines by the 12th of September after installing proper safety measures. The commuters will have to adopt to the new normal of wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing and hand sanitization in the metro premises.
The metro system is the main system of communication for a huge number of daily commuters in Delhi. And its closure is due to the fear of spreading more infections had caused big problem for these people. It can be noted that at one point of time, New Delhi had the highest positive cased in the country. But as the offices and business open up under various stages of Unlock, operation of the metro system has become more and more essential.
