In order to ease the load of the air passengers, Digi Yatra facility was made available at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. The services were made available to the public on Sunday.
According to the officials, Digi Yatra facility is now available at three locations in the airport. They are the main entrance, the check-in and the boarding areas.
Assam Industries & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary attended the event. Union Civil Aviation Secretary Rajeev Bansal was also present. Several other key officials and dignitaries were part of the event organised on August 20. Speaking on the occasion, the minister mentioned that this is a welcome development for the state. He also mentioned that this step will ease the movement of the passengers going through Guwahati airport.
Meanwhile, Rajeev Bansal mentioned that Northeast India is advancing in terms of tourism. And that this step will help the further growth of the sector. He also mentioned how the new facility works. He explained that the passengers will be able to upload their documents on the application. This will allow them to enter the airport without showing any documents. The cameras will scan their faces and once the detection is successful, gates will open automatically.
Chief airport officer of Guwahati Airport was also present. He mentioned that this step will be very helpful for the passengers. It will enable hassle free traveling, specially during the festival season. He also expressed hope that the bulk of the passengers start to use the new facility.
Noteworthily, as of now these services are available only for Indigo and Akasa airlines. The ministry of civil aviation had earlier mentioned that no personally identifiable information is saved. Also all passenger data is completely secure and encrypted.
