Guwahati: Marking a new milestone in the tourism sector of the entire Northeastern region, a new international destination has been added to the Guwahati Airport. The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has announced direct connectivity to Bangkok. Guwahati will now have direct flights to Bangkok from today onwards.
This new route of flight operations is being operated by Thai Air Asia. And the inauguration ceremony for the new sector was conducted on Saturday at the Guwahati Airport. It was also attended by several key officials including Ankur Jain – Director of Assam Skill Development Mission, Chief Airport Officer of the Guwahati Airport Utpal Baruah and Wuitchuni Kuntapeng, Chief Executive Officer of the Thai Air Asia, Bangkok and Shyam Malani, Director of Indo Thai in Guwahati.
The first flight landed at Guwahati Airport with a total of 56 passengers and left for Bangkok with 97 passengers on the first day. The flight services will be operated three days a week as of now, that is on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, it was mentioned that this new airline will add new routes for flight connectivity. Some of these planned destinations for new connectivity include Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. The Chief Airport Officer of Guwahati Airport also spoke on the occasion. He said, “Our airport has marched ahead with this new connection towards making this airport a hub to the South East Asian countries. It will also give a fillip to the tourism industry in this region. We all, the airport, airlines, government and other stakeholders should work jointly to make this route sustainable. ”
This new route will also help in reducing the travel cost as well as travel time between the two countries. Especially, for the people of the Northeastern part of the country.
