Ferry services resume in Guwahati

Ferry services between the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra river which had been put on hold due to the rising water levels, has resumed from today after the water levels have come below the danger level of the city.

A large number of people on both sides of the river use the ferry services for day to day travelling. People have traverse the river regularly for their education, work and business related needs. The river route is the cheapest for travelling between both the banks. It is also the cheapest method. Making it a very popular mode of transport in this location. And with the advert of new generation vessels, people now can even transport their vehicles onboard these vessels.

The rising water levels of the Brahmaputra river caused the closure of all marine vessels a few weeks back. The sheer amount of water and the sediment make the current is the river very unpredictable. Hence it is a normal procedure done to prevent any untoward incident in the river. This procedure is usually followed during the monsoons as well as when the conditions become too windy.

As the government has allowed the boats to ply, river tourism project Alfesco Grand has also resumed its working from today.
