The Ganga Vilas Cruise has entered the last part of its more than a month long journey. It entered the waters of Assam on Friday.
The Ganga Vilas cruise is being called the longest cruise of the world. It was flagged off on the 13th of January from Varanasi. It traveled through the waters of multiple states of the country. These include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and now Assam. The ship also traverses through the waters of Bangladesh before it reentered Indian territory.
The passengers were ferried to the jetty for the immigration clearance at the Dhubri Customs office by MV Pratima. A welcome program was organised for all the guests in the town by the tourism department of the state. Apart from having a first-hand experience of the culture of the state, they also got a chance to try out the local cuisines. Assam’s minister of tourism, Jayanta Malla Baruah was also present for the welcome event. He had also opened the new customs and immigration office in Dhubri earlier.
The group of tourists on the Ganga Vilas Cruise include 32 Swiss tourists who were felicitated in the event. They were taken around on a guided tour of the important destinations around the town of Dhubri. The cruise still had thirteen more days to go before it comes to an end. The final stop on the itinerary is Dibrugarh, the estimated arrival date for which is March 1.
Union Minister Sarbanada Sonowal also called this and “watershed moment” the state’s tourism sector.
