The Ganga Vilas Cruise which started from Varanasi, reached Guwahati today afternoon on its 42nd day. The local authorities arranged for a good reception for the tourists in Guwahati.
The ship set anchor near the Saraighat Bridge and was escorted by the SL Subansiri and HPT Ambedkar. The Inland Water Authority of India’s Pandu Port in Guwahati is where the tourists came onshore.
The tourists got a taste of Assam tea and snacks while they enjoyed the colorful folk dances. Cultural troupes from the Karbi and Tiwa communities performed for the guests on the banks of the Brahmaputra. The sunset and the Saraighat bridge added to the beautiful setting for the guests.
Several dignitaries including the Additional Chief Secretary Maninder Singh, Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha and Inland Water Authority of India Regional Director A Selvakumar were present for the arrival of the guests.
The guests are scheduled to visit the Kamakhaya Temple and the Assam State Museum tomorrow. Thereafter they will board the cruise again with the next stop at nearby Morigaon. Also, the foreigners will visit the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary before moving ahead with their voyage.
The Ganga Vilas Cruise stopped at Sualkuchi after leaving from Dhubri and before reaching Guwahati, where the tourist got a first hand experience of the silk industry of the state.
