In order to give a taste of the history and heritage of the biggest city of Northeast India to all the tourists coming to the city, the Guwahati Heritage Walk was carried out today.
The Guwahati Heritage Walk started at the Northbrook Bridge in Panbazar. It is a memorial which was built to welcome the British Viceroy Lord Northbrook who visited the state in 1874. It then proceed towards the newly inaugurated Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Center. The ribbons of this British bungalow turned into tourism project was cut by the Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu few days back. The route then passes through the streets near the Cotton College and Cotton Collegiate School, explaining about various buildings and hostels, before visiting the Ugratara Temple and the Jur Pukhuri next to it. This pond happens to be the home to more than hundreds of graceful swans. From there the walk proceeded to the riverbank towards the Uzanbazar Ghat to finally end with a breakfast on Alfesco, the floating restaurant.
This event was arranged by India Tourism Northeast and Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited, in collaboration with the North East Chapter of the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India. And the duration for the walk wold be around one hour.
Designed to happen early in the morning, this Guwahati Heritage Walk will offer the tourists a view of the carefree and sparely populated view of the otherwise busy city of Guwahati. A quick lesson in history and heritage will also be served to the willing participants. And to end it all, a taste of pitha and a cup of Assam Tea for breakfast will definitely be a healthy start for the day for any tourist. Since it is short and will happen in the morning, all travelers can take part in it before proceeding to their next destination.
