Another major boost to the tourist sector of the Northeast Indian region was announced during an event in Assam. The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh has announced that Guwahati to Dhaka flight services will resume soon.
The two day Silchar-Sylhet Festival has been designed to revisit the rich heritage and the connection between the people of the two countries. These regions share similar tradition, culture and habits but were separated during the partition.
Speaking on the occasion, the foreign minister mentioned about the connection between the countries. He also spoke about the possible exchange ideas towards the mutual benefit of both the nations. Speaking on the occasion he announced the revival of the of air connectivity from Guwahati to Dhaka.
The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, AK Abdul Momen is on a visit to India for the ongoing Silchar-Sylhet Festival in the state of Assam. Several other members of parliament, senior officials and bureaucrats from the neighboring country are part of the group visiting the region. The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India has also attended this event.
A group of artists and experts from the country are also a part of the contingent. The minister also mentioned that trade and commerce betwen the neighboring countries are at the highest now. He added that the setting up of an office of the Assistant High Commissioner in Guwahati is on the cards. Once completes, this step will make the process of both tourism and commerce between the countries much easier.
It is also important to note that the India is currently working to expand its marine trade options. Goods from the central and northern India is moved from northeast and vice versa through the Ganga and Brahmaputra waterways. And a significant part of this route passes through the waters of Bangladesh and Dhaka is a very important point on this route.
