The 10th International Tourism Mart for the Northeastern Region was inaugurated in capital of Mizoram today. Union Minister for Tourism, Government of India, GK Reddy was present for the formal opening. Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga was also present alongside several other dignitaries.
The International Tourism Mart is taking place for three days starting on November 17. The main aim for this event is to attract more and more tourists to the beautiful and green Northeast India.
Several new projects were also flagged off by the central minister during his visit to the state. These include the PRASHAD Project of Mizoram and the Bamboo Link Road between Tuirial Airfield to N.Chaltlang Road. Creation of nine new viewpoints were also announced in the event. They will be at Zemabawk, Tlangnuam, Phulmawi, Pangzawl, Tualthu, Thingkah, Keifang, Puilo and Neihdawn respectively. Each of these viewpoints will be equipped with tourist amenities like washrooms and eateries. Stalls selling local produce will also be set up at these locations. The foundation stone for the Aizawl Convention Center at Chite was also laid virtually.
The event also showcases the beautiful traditions and culture of Mizoram and Northeast India as a whole. An exhibition to present the same is also a part of this event. Cultural and fashion shows are also part of the schedule to showcase the beautiful dance, music and dresses of the region. A coffee table book to commemorate the event was also released today.
