The Indian Railways and the IRCTC have launched a “North East Discovery” tour to promote tourism. This tour package is aimed at promoting the lesser-traveled regions of Northeast India. And the total duration of this tour is fifteen days, starting from November 16.
The North East Discovery comes under the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist train service. And the tour flags off from the Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi on November 16. The tour will take the passengers through several well-known as well as lesser-known tourism destinations of the region. Some of them are Kaziranga, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Guwahati in Assam. In Tripura, these tourists will visit Udaipur, Agartala and Unakoti. In Nagaland they will visit Dimapur and Kohima. And in Meghalaya, the tourists will visit Shillong and Cherrapunji. Several attractions will be on the itinerary for the tourists aboard this train.
Itinerary for North East Discovery
The first stop of the tour is Guwahati. The tourists will visit the Kamakhya Temple, and the Umananda Temple followed by a sunset view over the Brahmaputra. An overnight journey from Guwahati will take the tourists to the Naharlagun Railway Station in Arunachal Pradesh. From there, they proceed to Sivasagar and visit the Sivadol, Rang Ghar and Talatal Ghar. This will be followed by tea garden tours and overnight stay in Kaziranga and an early morning safari in the national park.
The tourists will then depart by the train to Tripura and visit Unakoti, Ujjayanta Palace, Neer Mahal and Tripura Sundari temple. The next stop for the North East Discovery train is Dimapur. From there, the tourists depart by road to Kohima and then Khonoma to experience the Naga lifestyle. Thereafter, the tourists will return to Guwahati by train and then visit Shillong and Cherrapunji. They will visit the Umiam Lake, Shillong Peak, Nohkalikai Falls and Mawsmai Caves as a part of these visit.
Services and Amenities
IRCTC has equipped the North East Discovery with a variety of modern amenities. Some of them include two dining cars/ restaurants and a contemporary flameless kitchen. Shower cubicles are part of the AC I and AC II coaches and sensor-based washroom facilities are present. A foot massager and a mini library will also be available. State-of-the-art security measures including CCTV cameras and electronic safes have been provided along with dedicated security personnel for each coach. Patrons can choice between AC I, AC II and AC III as the train is fully air conditioned.
The tour will cover about 5800 kms in total in 15 days. The tour package is all inclusive and includes train tickets, accommodations, all vegetarian meals, local transfers, travel insurance and tour guides.
