The Tourism Minister of Assam, Jayanta Malla Baruah today flagged off new flight services. These flights will now connect Silchar to Guwahati. Flybig Airlines will provide connectivity on this route. The minister flagged off the inaugural flight with 63 passengers onboard.
Flybig will operate the flights will with support from Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited. The agency will support the airline through the Viability Gap Funding scheme. Flybig is also operating similar flights on Guwahati Dibrugarh route.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister mentioned that this route will help the entire region. People from the neighboring state can now reach Guwahati in a very limited amount of time. Not only can the people of Barak Valley of Assam benefit from this, but also the people of neighboring regions from Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur will be benefited from this service.
The scheduled flight will take off from Guwahati at 7:30 AM for Silchar. And the return flight from Silchar will take off at 8:30 AM every day. One month back the minister had launched the Guwahati Dibrugarh Guwahati service.
The inaugural flight saw a total of 63 passengers onboard out of a total capacity of 72. Speaking on the occasion, Jayanta Malla Baruah said that these flights will be operated on Non-UDAN routes. And that the main intention is to improve domestic connectivity. It will also have a far-reaching impact on the tourism industry of the region. Ticket prices are also expected to be low on these routes.
The UDAN scheme aims to connect smaller cities of the country. In the Northeastern region, connectivity to Shillong, Itanagar, Ziro, Imphal and Aizawl come under this scheme.
