In a bid to promote the tourism sector of the state, the tourism minister of the state took part in an event in Delhi. Several key tour operators of the capital attended this meeting. Representatives of several tourism-related media houses also attended this event along with other stakeholders.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah asked the operators to work with his department. He also asked all the stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism in the state. He added that his department will make arrangements for the stakeholders to visit Assam. That way, they will be familiarized with the landscapes and the resources of the state. And in turn, help them to create customized packages as per the needs of the tourists.
Jayanta Malla Baruah also mentioned that the state has ample resources to attract tourists of all categories. And highlighted the wetlands, forests, cultures, cuisines and rural lifestyles apart from the usual attractions. He also mentioned the new tourism policy adopted by the state. This allows direct investment in the tourism sector while building up tourism attractions from the ground up.
He also highlighted the growth of the tourism sector in the state of Assam in recent times. Assam has seen a 573% increase in domestic and 783% increase in foreign tourist footfall in the past year. Also, multiple premium accommodation options are now coming up near existing tourist destinations. These include premium resorts and star-category hotels in the state.
The minister also mentioned that the law and order situation of the state has improved significantly. And this has made Assam one of the safest tourism destinations of the region and the country. And with the support from various stakeholders, Assam can become one of the best tourism destinations in the country.
He also added that the department will revamp the Assam Tourism Information Centre in Connaught Place This way potential tourists will be able to access information easily. This facility will also promote Assam as a tourism destination for the people in the region. The department website will also be developed so that tourists can avail all services from a single point.
