Meghalaya gets its 1st 5 Star Hotel

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the the Vivanta Meghalaya, the first 5 Star Hotel of the state. The event was attended by several eminent dignitaries of the state and more.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister called it a truly momentous occasion in the history of the state. He highlighted the labor and efforts that went to the project since 1986 and the efforts of his government to bring it back on track. He congratulated and thanked all stakeholders for completing the project despite the pandemic. The hotel is designed to have 101 rooms, a specialty restaurant, coffee shops, retail shops, bar and a banquet hall.

Owned by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), it has been leased out to the Indian Hotels Corporation Limited for 33 years in a public private partnership mode. Apart from providing ample job opportunities, it will also provide world class accommodation to the tourists to the state. This Vivanta by Taj and the upcoming Courtyard by Marriott 5 Star hotel will boast high volume tourism in the state.

The CM mentioned that these projects will boast the tourism and income of the state. And help make it the most preferred destination for eco-tourism in the country. He also mentioned his goal to make Meghalaya one of the top states of the country.

He also spoke about developing the tourism sector in the hub and spokes model. Existing destinations Sohra, Jowai, Shillong, Umiam and Tura will be the hubs and nearby tourist destinations will be developed as spokes. Tourists amenities will be created so tourists can explore locations beyond the usual ones. He also mentioned about the popular tourism related projects in the state and how it has helped the people.
