Meghalaya Tourist Spots to Reopen for Local Tourists

Meghalaya Government on Wednesday has permitted all the tourists places in the state to reopen for local tourists from within the state with effect from 16th October 2020.

The reopening is subject to compliance with the SOP issued by Tourism Department of the state on 31st August and strict adherence to the social distancing protocols issued by the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya.

The order further stated that the entities, organizations, associations that wish to reopen such places should intimate the Deputy Commissioner confirming adherence to the SOP. Deputy Commissioner shall ensure strict compliance to these protocols and guidelines through periodic inspections and regulate the schedule and timing depending on the local situation and to meet the social distancing norms.

Local tourists form a large section of the travelers in the state of Meghalaya. The consecutive lockdowns and the fear of infection has put a huge burden on the tourism resources of the state. This step is expected to bring some relief to these establishments.
