Located on the edge of Guwahati city, the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the favourite wildlife destinations for the people visiting Guwahati. It is also one of the favourite destinations for thousands of migratory birds visiting the Northeast Indian region during the winter every year.
This year the number of avian guests is larger than the previous year. But they have arrives a bit late compared to the last year. Lakhs of birds belonging to several species have made the grasslands and swamps their temporary accommodation during the season.
A large number of migratory birds present here makes it an excellent destination for birdwatchers, photographers and other enthusiasts. The reserved area also offers gypsy safari to any interested parties. Given its small size and large population of one-horned rhinoceros in the park, it is really to spot the highly endangered animal in the area.
But the end of December and the beginning of January is also the picnic season in the state. Multiple picnic sports located near the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary means that more and more people visit the region. They also make a lot of noise and cause disturbance to the birds as well as the other wild animals of the forest area.
