In a notification issued today, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to do away with the price cap on domestic flights with effect from the end of this month.
Since the other modes of communication were either limited or canceled. In order to keep the prices of flight tickets in check, the Ministry of Civil Aviation had put a price cap on domestic flights. This order was given on 21st of May, 2020. It also modified from time to time to enable the phased reopening of the aviation sector post COVID-19. Part of the travel industry, the aviation sector was one of the worst effected by the global pandemic.
In view of the current developments, the government has allowed the airlines to work like before. That is the airlines are now free to fix the ticket prices based on demand and fuel prices from the beginning of the next month. This will give a certain amount of relief to the domestic airlines of the country.
The airlines and airport operators will still have to follow the safety guidelines issued by the government from time to time. Also all COVID appropriate behavior must be strictly enforced at all public places.
