Mizoram’s Lengpui Airport and Inter-state borders at Kanhmun and Vairengte to remain open only on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. This will be applicable for incoming air passengers and passenger vehicles by road respectively from 24th August until further orders. The order was issued by Chief Secretary/Chairman of the state executive committee of State Disaster Management Authority of the state on Wednesday.
The decision was prompted due to the spike of Covid-19 positive cases within the state recently. The surge in inter-state movement of people due to resumption of economic and livelihood activities led to rise in covid cases.
The official order further stated that the quarantine and healthcare facilities of the state are currently over-burdened by the influx of burden and the rising positive cases of Covid-19. Hence, the authorities felt it necessary to regulate inter-state movement of people so as to calibrate it with the coping capacity of the quarantine and healthcare facilities of the state.
This step comes to force a few days after neighboring Assam revised its quarantine policies for air passengers under the ongoing Unlock 3 nationwide. Mizoram so far has recorded a total of 860 cases of Covid-19 with 389 recovered cases.
