The Mount Everest is the tallest peak on earth above mean sea level. 29th of May is celebrated as the Mount Everest Day to commemorate the first mountaineers to conquer its summit.
For many years the summits of Mt. Everest have attracted man and woman from across the globe to climb and conquer it. But very few have succeeded in all the past years. The first to do so were Tenzing Norgay, a Nepali – Indian Sherpa mountaineer and Edmund Hillary , a mountaineer, explorer and philanthropist from New Zealand.
However climbing the Mt. Everest is not an easy job. With the increase in height, the oxygen level depletes quickly. Meaning that climbers have to carry everything along with them. The weather also changes without any warning. This leads to the death of innumerable climbers and the bodies are often lost in the ice, only to reappear years later.
In order to make all this possible, there is the Sherpa community of modern day Nepal. These community consisting of experienced mountaineers act as guides and porters on the Mt. Everest expeditions. Tenzing Norgay, one member of the first successful expedition belonged to this community of mountaineers.
In order to reduce pollution and keep the place in pristine conditions, government of Nepal issues a limited number of passes every year. And there are stringent regulations in place about the permits and experience necessary for attempting the climb.
On Mount Everest Day team Discover East wants to pay respect and homage to all the people who have climbed it successfully and those who have failed to complete it and all those who have lost their lives in this expedition.
