Ladakh Police has rescued nearly 100 travelers from the Changla Axis region. These people were trapped in the difficult terrain because of sudden and heavy snowfall in the past two days. Teams from the UTDRF, Indian Army and GREEF took part in this rescue operation.
According to reports, the tourists had visited the region. But heavy snowfall in the past few days made it impossible for the vehicles to pass through. The icy and slippery conditions of the roads made them nearly impossible to drive.
The Union Territory Disaster Response Force (UTDRF) usually handles such needs in the region. This operation began on Friday and no untoward incident was reported during the mission. Although some people faced difficulties, they were shifted to medical facilities with priority. Local Police mentioned that all people have been safely evacuated to Leh.
Several vehicles including both private and commercial cars were stuck in Changla Top. This caused the tourists to be stuck in the icy conditions. Police teams from Kharu and Tangste police posts rushed to Changla Top as the weather turned worse.
The rescuers gave the primary focus to women and children among the tourists. And those experiencing medical complications were swiftly moved to medical facilities in Leh.
The police informed that the self driven cars were transferred via police vehicles and local taxis. Also local drivers assisted in the safe passage of the private vehicles. They also urged that tourists pay heed to weather forecasts while traveling. And that this will ensure a safer travel experience.
