It has been a week since the opening of most of the protected regions in the country for tourists. But the Guwahati’s nearest wildlife sanctuary, has not opened its doors for the tourists yet.
The opening of the national parks marks the beginning of the new tourism season of the region. This year the parks opened on the 2nd of October and tourists are already pilling up across the state. And tourists passing through the city of Guwahati, often take visit the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.
But the attraction closest to the city is not ready to accept tourists yet. This is causing loss of valuable visitors to the park. Which is directly effecting everyone in the vicinity of the park who depend on tourists for their livelihood. These include the drivers and guides who offer the safari services in the park to the tourists. Resorts and small eateries nearby are also missing out on possible income that can be generated. Gift and souvenir shops are also in this list.
This year the migratory birds have also arrived early to the protected area, increasing its natural beauty. But since the water has not dried up completely and parts of the park are not ready for safari yet, doors remain close for tourists.
