In order to ascertain the number of rhinoceros present in the Kaziranga National Park a rhino census is carried out every year. Called the Rhino Population Estimate, it is usually carried out in the second half of March given the dry season in the state.
The Divisional Forest Officer of Bokakhat has notified the dates of 14th version of the Rhino Population Estimate. The rhino census of the 2022 will be held from the 26th of March to the 28th of March. A large number of people take part in this annual event. That includes officials from the Forest Department, administration, experts of the field and representatives from other circles.
And to prevent interference in the rhino census, the authorities have put restrictions in the safari options in park. Elephant safari will not be possible for tourists from the 26th to the 28th of March. Jeep safari will be allowed only in Eastern Range, Agoratoli on the 26th. On the 27th, jeep safari will be allowed only in the Burapahar Range, Kaziranga Range, Kohora Range and the Western Range, Bagori. On the last day, that is the 28th, only Burapahar Range will be open for jeep safari.
Tourists are hence requested to plan their visits accordingly.
