The district administration of the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya has decided to impose the odd-even rule to control traffic in the capital city. This step has been taken to bring the massive traffic problems in Shillong under control. Also, this decision has been taken only for all commercial vehicles traveling in the state. And the order comes into effect from June 5.
According to the order, odd-numbered commercial vehicles will be allowed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. And even numbered commercial vehicles will ply on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. But the restrictions won’t be applicable on Sundays starting next week.
The administrations have imposed this rule for commercial vehicles coming towards the Police Bazar and Motphran localities of Shillong. These steps come after Meghalaya High Court‘s order to take immediate action to relieve the traffic. Special emphasis was given to the entry and exit points of the city and the localities around the prominent businesses.
