The Taj Mahal in Agra will be finally reopened for tourists and visitors on September 21. The monument remained closed for about 6 months due to Covid-19. As per reports this is the longest time when the Taj Mahal had closed its doors for visitors.
Along with Taj Mahal, Agra Fort will also reopen on the same date as informed by Agra District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh. Both the historic monuments will be opened in compliance with the Covid-19 protocols issued by the Central government along the UP government.
As per reports, the entry of visitors to Taj Mahal has been made limited to 5000 per day. However, for Agra Fort, the number of visitors have been reduced to 2500 per day.
Taj Mahal is one of the tourist hotspots in India attracting a large number of tourist across the country and borders.
Though the monument was closed during Second World War and also during the two wars with Pakistan in 1965 and 1971, the closure was never this long,” as informed by Arun Dang, the former president of Tourism Guild in a report. He further added that when the monument was closed during the wars, it was covered with a black clothes to protect the white monument from air strikes.
Visitors can buy tickets online and there will be a thermal checking at the entrance along with provisions for hand sanitization.
Although ASI had allowed to open it as early as July, the District Magistrate had put a hold to the opening of these monuments fearing the spread of the Covid -19 pandemic.
